Most couple sessions fail for the same reason: they are run as a shoot. Stand here, look there, chin down, now laugh. You can see it in the photographs afterwards, and so can everybody else.
This works differently. We walk. I give you something to do rather than a pose to hold, and the photographs come out of the walking rather than the standing.
It suits engagements, anniversaries, honeymoons, and couples who simply want one good set of photographs of themselves while they are in Paris.
Most sessions run between one and two hours, which is long enough to cover two locations properly without either of you getting tired of it.
The first fifteen minutes are usually the most self-conscious, and it shows. By the twentieth minute nobody is thinking about the camera any more, which is why the session is not thirty minutes long.
The hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset usually offer the best combination of flattering light and fewer crowds.
Sunrise is the better of the two. The Trocadéro is genuinely empty at six in the morning in June and genuinely impossible at six in the evening. If you can face the alarm, take the early slot.
Plain fabrics, few patterns, and nothing you have not already worn for a whole day.
Long dresses and long coats move well and photograph well. Logos, busy prints and brand-new shoes do not. If the two of you are unsure, pick the colours first and the garments second.

No, and almost everybody says it. Being uncomfortable in front of a camera is normal, and it is the photographer’s job to work around it rather than yours to get over it.
Yes. I work at a distance with a long lens for a good part of most sessions, which is also why the photographs look unposed — a lot of the time you genuinely are not being directed.
Yes, if there is somewhere sensible to do it. Say so when you book so the route can allow for it.
